Ideas for your pledges

Here are some ideas including some of the pledges made by the parties in other local COPs.

Are you a church or faith group? Consider joining Eco-congregation Ireland
Delete unwanted photos and files from your cloud storage.
Do the 25 by 25 Challenge.
Email suppliers to ask them to switch to biodegradable packaging.
Ask customers if they really want a paper receipt.
Replace lightbulbs with energy efficient LEDs. Here's a guide to LED bulbs.
Create insect-friendly areas in your garden. Learn how here.
Add loft insulation. Learn about the grants available for this.
Remove straws and stirrers.
Add windowboxes of native flowers.
Turn down the thermostat.
Transition from single-use plastic pens to refillable or biodegradable pens.
Decorate with pots of real, native flowering plants instead of synthetic flowers.
Display a sign explaining how to recycle your packaging or tableware.
Offer paper bags instead of plastic for vegetables or bread.

Stop using pesticides and poisons.
Hairdressers? You could provide a shampoo refill service.
Install bike racks.
Leave wild areas on your land.
Serve food? Grow your own - every little helps.

What is The Conference Of The Parties?

Dingle COP is a local version of the Conference of the Parties (COP), which is the global United Nations climate summit that takes place every year. Visit the global COP website here.

COP brings countries together to address our growing climate crisis, and asks each country to commit to actions and to have achieved these actions by a target date.

“At the United Nations climate change conference in Paris, COP 21, governments agreed that mobilizing stronger and more ambitious climate action is urgently required to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. Action must come from governments, cities, regions, businesses and investors. Everyone has a role to play in effectively implementing the Paris Agreement.”

COP28 was hosted by UAE in 2023. Many people were dubious about the host nation's connections to the fossil fuel industry, but the parties did make progress in some areas and agree important steps.

Dingle COP

Dingle COP is organised by Hazel Blennerhassett, Laura Brodie, Darach Ó'Murchú, Manuela Dei Grandi, Melanie Joy, John Ó'Flannúra (Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne), and TY students at Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne. Dingle COP is not funded and relies 100% on local volunteers.
