Calling all schools, artists, and crafters!

When a local business or group makes a pledge, we'll give them a Dingle COP sign that they can hang in the window to celebrate their participation in Dingle COP and help spread the word.

Our signs feature a handmade bird below a cardboard placard.

Our Dingle COP birds are made by volunteers of all ages, and we welcome anyone that wants to make a Dingle COP bird for us, which we’ll use in our signs to thank participants.

Please contact us at contactmymessage@iwindinglecop.ie if you’d like to make a Dingle COP bird.

Bird guidelines

You can make any kind of bird at all, but there are a few rules that we ask everyone to stick to:

  • Your bird must be around 10cm to 15cm in height and width so that they fit below the cardboard placard.
  • Your bird must be lightweight so that they can be hung up safely.
  • Your bird mustn’t be made of something that will shatter or hurt someone if it is dropped.
  • We want your bird to be kind to the environment, like real birds!

Please use only the following material for making your bird:

  • Material or yarn or buttons that you already have, like an old shirt, t-shirt, skirt, or jumper.
  • Clean cardboard, tissue paper, or paper waste.
  • Natural corks, matchsticks, little bits of wood.
  • Papier mache made with waste paper, flour, salt, and water.
  • Foraged natural materials such as clean wool, twigs, or pinecones (feathers seem to be quite hard to clean and sterilise so we'd ask you to avoid using them).
  • Poster paint (Also called Tempera paint) or pencils. Or you can even make your own paint from vegetable and fruit peelings!

Please don't use:

  • New material, yarn, buttons etc.
Please use what you already have
  • Plastic or glass
  • Plastic googly eyes
  • Plastic beads
  • Glitter
  • Foraged feathers (hard to disinfect)

You’ll get extra brownie points if your bird can be composted safely whenever the time comes. Natural materials like unbleached cardboard, paper, cotton, pure wool, or linen will compost safely.

Once we receive your bird, we'll attach a Dingle COP placard, and deliver it to a Dingle COP participant. The Dingle COP placards are printed onto recycled paper that's glued onto cardboard rectangles by the Dingle Cop team.

Look out for your birds around the town!
